The sleek, black HP Slimline S3720F won't take over your desk (see larger version; monitor not included.
This desktop is powered by the 2.5 GHz Intel Pentium E5200 dual-core processor, which increases the efficiency and speed of the PC while running multiple programs and the latest multi-threaded software. Spec Check
  • 2.5 GHz Intel Pentium E5200 dual-core processor
  • 500 GB hard drive
  • 4 GB RAM (maximum)
  • Dual-layer DVD±R drive
  • 54g Wi-Fi (802.11b/g)
  • Nvidia GeForce 7100 graphics (up to 1343 MB total)
  • Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1 (64-bit)

The Basics

  • Processor: The 2.5 GHz Intel Pentium E5200 dual-core processor delivers additional computing resources and help expand the PC's capabilities by providing higher throughput and simultaneous computing. You'll be able to perform multiple tasks such as digital rendering and gaming all while running virus scan or other background tasks seamlessly. And its Intel 64 architecture is also ready for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, and offers enhanced performance through improved virtual memory. Each core shares 1 MB of L2 cache (for a 2 MB total), and they have an 800 MHz front-side bus. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

  • Hard Drive: The 500 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive (7200 RPM) offers a wealth of storage space, perfect for storing a vast multimedia collection or for editing digital video. This SATA hard drive has a 3Gb/s interface speed that enables up to 300MB/s data transfer rates (double the speed of the current SATA interface of 1.5Gb/s).

This Slimline PC also includes a drive bay that fits an optional HP Pocket Media Drive, which enables you to add up to 160 GB of additional storage. The Pocket Media Drive also works with any USB-enabled PC, for easy transferring of multimedia files from other computers in your home.

  • Memory: The 4 GB of installed RAM (PC2-6400, 2 x 2 GB) maximizes the capacity for this notebook,. It also offers an ultra-fast 800 MHz speed.

  • DVD/CD Drive: This multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 12x DVD±R DL Write Once, 16x DVD±R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 12x DVD-RAM, 40x CD-R, 32x CD-RW write speeds and 40x CD-ROM, and 16x DVD-ROM read speeds.

This LightScribe DVD±RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art.

  • Keyboard & Mouse: It comes with an HP multimedia keyboard and scroller mouse (both with PS/2 connections).
Video & Audio
Video is powered by the integrated Nvidia GeForce 7100 graphics/video card, which provides up to 1343 MB of total available video memory (128 MB dedicated) as allocated by Windows Vista. It features NVidia's PureVideo technology--which provides great picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for video content--and full support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 for stunningly realistic cinematic effects for all DirectX-compatible applications. It also has an integrated audio card that can produce high definition surround sound configurable to 8 speakers.

1 out of 5 stars runs very hot, DVR incompatibility   January 27, 2010
Andrew Johnson (minneapolis, mn)
got this computer 4 months ago and it looks great - perfect for shelf under large tv.

this issue is it runs EXTREMELY hot so i had to always leave the doors open on my tv stand.

also, due to problems with vista and poor driver support for this unpopular tv tuner card, the tv tuner will not work for some setups (search forums for avermedia m792 to see what i mean). i will try windows 7 to see if i can get it to work

1 out of 5 stars Do not buy this computer.   January 18, 2010

I had this computer only a month when the mother board died. I had to ship it back to HP for repair and I was without my computer for about a week. It worked for 5 months and the mother board died again.

1 out of 5 stars This compuer and HP service STINKS   October 20, 2009
DLB (Northeast)
This computer was defective right out of the box. Purchased in June 2009, it repeatedly had errors, setting it back to factory default did not help, neither did customer service. After months of phone calls about the DEFECTIVE SEAGATE HARD DRIVE that was included, which HP KNEW ABOUT and alerted us to, it took them 3 months to replace it, and they sent a BLANK HD, no OS or recovery partition. Months later I finally got a clean reformat and the system is JUST up and running as best as HP and Vista ever will I guess, and I am NOT eligible for the Windows 7 upgrade even though I purchased it in June from Circuit City who CLOSED before the computer was delivered. HP only provies the upgrade if purchased after June 26th, but considering they took MONTHS to send me a WORKING hard drive and I was never able to use the computer I am DISGUSTED and give them a 10 thumbs down, do we report things like this anywhere? The better business bureau?
I had purchased HP products for many years and the company where my husband works, but they've had similar problems and NO MORE HP's for us.
Too bad it took the only money I had for a new system. It was a GIFT.
I hope this helps anyone considering this product.

No support, October 9, 2009
By Stan Tomberg (Hendersonville, NC) - See all my reviews

On 1/01/09 I called customer service (that is what they call it). I told the tech my internal lightscribe drive would not burn label's. I am not a not a novice and I went through all the steps - uninstalling the drive and reinstalling the drive, etc. I told the the tech that my external lightscribe drive was working fine so it had to be the drive. He had me duplicate all the steps I Had already done and after 1:05 he said he would send me a new drive it was under warranty got my credit card info and he put me on hold. After 10 minutes (1:15 total time) I hung up.

I called back after I cooled down and got a tech who saw what was done, bur insisted to let him take over my PC. He assured me it take only 20 minutes and I agreed. An hour and 35 minutes later I told him just take of ordering the drive (it seems the first tech did not it. Hr agreed and then after being on hold for 5 minutes he told me the system was down and I would have to call back on 11/2/09.

Both techs had bad attitudes and treated me like a dummy. I wasted two hours and 40 minutes of being insulted and talked down to!

Price can not overcome lack of service
