Product Description
PRINCESS AND THE FROG, THE

Amazon.com
After the visual bombast of many contemporary CG and motion-capture features, the drawn characters in The Princess and the Frog, the Walt Disney Studio's eagerly awaited return to traditional animation, feel doubly welcome. Directed by John Musker and Ron Clements (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin), The Princess and the Frog moves the classic fairy tale to a snazzy version of 1920s New Orleans. Tiana (voice by Anika Noni Rose), the first African-American Disney heroine, is not a princess, but a young woman who hopes to fulfill her father's dream of opening a restaurant to serve food that will bring together people from all walks of life. Tiana may wish upon a star, but she believes that hard work is the way to fulfill your aspirations. Her dedication clashes with the cheerful idleness of the visiting prince Naveen (Bruno Campos). A voodoo spell cast by Dr. Facilier (Keith David) in a showstopping number by composer Randy Newman initiates the events that will bring the mismatched hero and heroine together. However, the animation of three supporting characters--Louis (Michael-Leon Wooley), a jazz-playing alligator; Ray (Jim Cummings), a Cajun firefly; and 197-year-old voodoo priestess Mama Odie (Jenifer Lewis)--is so outstanding, it nearly steals the film. Alternately funny, touching, and dramatic, The Princess and the Frog is an all-too-rare example of a holiday entertainment a family can enjoy together, with the most and least sophisticated members appreciating different elements. The film is also a welcome sign that the beleaguered Disney Feature Animation Studio has turned away from such disasters as Home on the Range, Chicken Little, and Meet the Robinsons and is once again moving in the right direction. Rated G: General Audiences, suitable for ages 6 and older: violence, some scary imagery, tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

5 out of 5 stars fun, great picture   September 3, 2010

I love the combo pack! I am able to watch the movie in different locations based on system available. Nice and flexible. The picture quality is great on the BluRay and even the DVD. I can't say for sure about the digital copy, as I have not watched that one. It was great price for all 3 movies- would have cost alot more to buy seperatly. Disney is harly ever on sale in the store so buying it here was a buy!!

5 out of 5 stars Princess & the Frog DVD   August 31, 2010

My daughter and I absolutely loved watching "Princess and the Frog" in the movie theater and jumped at the chance to buy the DVD so we could watch it again and again. The price was great and it was delivered as advertised.

1 out of 5 stars Made my adopted Afro-american daughter cry! Not politically correct!   August 31, 2010

I was looking for a family friendly and inspiring tale that my adopted afro-american daughter could enjoy so I decided to purchase Princess and the Frog. I shouldn't' have. I SHOULD have stuck to classics of children's cinema such as Bee Movie, Treasure Planet, and Shark Tale!

First of all, there was no CGI animation. With all the computer effects these days it doesn't make any sense to resort to these obsolete methods, actually drawing out each frame! Next Disney will make a silent movie and really get my ire up!

However, what really got my overly sensitive progressive goat was how un-PC this film was. It makes all afro-americans talk in this silly accident, listen to jazz music, and practice voodoo! Who wrote this movie anyway, Newt Gingrich and Glenn Beck? since Disney has never had a racial bias, the occult, or princesses in any of their films, this came to me as quite a shock!

For good childen's movies, stick to Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Monsters Inc., and The Incredible Mr. Limpet!

5 out of 5 stars LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!   August 24, 2010

I think I bought this movie, more for me, than my kids! The first time I watched it - I wasn't really into it, and didnt finish it, but I gave it another try and fell in LOVE! I absolutely LOVE this movie... its the best Disney movie I have seen in awhile. I was a little worried that my 4 year old would be scared by the "spirits and voodoo" references in this movie, but it hasn't seemed to phase him yet... but other than that - would recommend to anyone who loves catchy songs and a great movie!
