Good while it lasted October 16, 2008 Claudia L (Louisiana USA) My SVR 2000 remote control just quit and can't be found anywhere, except on eBay for 49.99 AND the newest review here says the unit won't work after Feb 2009 anyway. So I guess I go shopping. I've had it since May of 2003, so it has served me well. I'm lost without my Pause,Replay, and instant Record. Sony is no longer making this unit.
** BUYER BEWARE * THIS UNIT WILL NOT WORK AFTER FEB 9, 2009 ** October 6, 2008 Trace Fox (Rio Grande, NJ USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
******** BUYERS BEWARE OF TIVO's ******* ***** SO CALLED "LIFETIME SERVICE" ******* AND THIS UNIT WILL NOT WORK AFTER FEB 9, 2009 EVEN WITH A CONVERTER BOX ******************* DO NOT BUY ***************************** We bought a SVR-2000 series I Sony along with the lifetime sub thinking we would always have that service. After all lifetime should mean just that right? No way. It turns out our series I which we still love like a family member will be a white elephant on Feb 9 due to the fact it can not record DTV. Tivo offers a refurb unit for $99 bucks but to keep your so called "lifetime" sub you are slapped with a "transfer fee" of $299. What you know Joe? Let's face it, they are giving it to you. So instead of calling it a new subscription they call it a transfer fee. You know that's what Tivo wanted for you to have to buy in to another lifetime service agreement. They lied and deceived us. What's new? I knew it was too good to be true. "Lifetime" doesn't mean lifetime. Because of the fact that even though our Tivo still works perfectly and we don't need any more frills, we are forced to buy another Tive and another "Lifetime" sub. That stinks and once again America, they are doing it to you. I guess I can't blame them after all they are not making any more money from me but I did pay the $299. JUST DON'T LIE TO ME AND TELL ME LIFETIME! We are giving Tivo up after eight years and going with another direction. There are many others ways of going at it now and it's time to take one.

No problems -- ever. Easy to use and easy to upgrade and/or add larger hard drives. I liked it so much I just bought another...the SVR-3000. Hopefully, Sony will continue to make DVRs with the latest technology.
Tivo rocks, Sony is the worst company in the world!! December 26, 2003 6 out of 15 found this review helpful
Do not buy a Sony DVR!!! I've been on the phone for hours with 4 operators in India who have no idea what a DVR is. Yet, they work for Sony as technicians who are supposed to fix your DVR?!. Call a number, (nice) Indian operator who has no idea what you are talking about tries to help. She has no clue, so she gives you a new tele number to call. Next tech is just as clueless. I now go to buy ReplayTV because my friend loves his.
It will change your life or at least your tv viewing! December 9, 2003 R. FERLA (Cambridge, MA USA) 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
Tivo is one of the best products I have ever purchased. It's not only a great product but a life changing one. Before you think this is all hype, let me explain. By using a "season pass", you can record all episodes of your favorite shows automatically. So instead of recording shows each time, it does it for you. The result is that you have all your shows just waiting for you to watch when you come home. You get to spend more time watching what you like and there's no anxiety over missing a show. Because it records on a hard disk, there are no tapes to purchase or replace. I got purchased one without really understanding the benefits. Both my wife and I were blown away by this product. Once you get one, you'll never ever understand how you got by without it.
