2 out of 5 stars Not all that...   December 1, 2008
Lily J.
I've had this system for about a year now, and while it's still holding up well, I've found it to be consistently mediocre. The sound isn't great--to me, it sounds somewhat muffled, and there's no way to equalize the sound. There are no sound controls besides on, off, and volume up or down.

The CD player often has trouble recognizing discs, especially CD-Rs, and often won't play them. Even with "store-bought" normal CDs, the CD often turns and turns and turns before the player will finally read it. I've never had a CD player that had so much trouble reading discs.

I'm already shopping around for a new stereo, which I think is a shame. I was seduced in by the esthetic of the thin speakers, but they're contrasted by the bulky subwoofer that isn't shown in all of the pictures, and which ruins the look.

And as other reviewers have noted, you lose all presets and even the time when you turn off the subwoofer, so I wonder how much I could save on my electricity bill if I could turn it off?

It was a purchase made in haste that I regret. One star is for the flat speakers, which still are kind of cool, and the fact that it charges my iPod while it's docked. The other star, I suppose, is for simple durability--after a year, it's still functioning, but at that price shouldn't it be?

3 out of 5 stars Almost cool. Wish it could charge the new Nano.   November 24, 2008

I got this unit for my wife's studio. It's so close to being really great but has just a few shortcomings. The most important of these to me is that the dock doesn't charge the newest Nanos (3G -- the curvy colorful ones). A screen appears on the Nano reading "Charging is not supported with this accessory." (You get points for clarity, Apple, but what did you change on the Nanos?) It charges my 5G iPod just fine but that's not the one that will be in it. I'm not sure if it's Teac's fault or Apple's, but I don't really care. Bottom line is that it has gotten more fiddly.

A couple other things:

The subwoofer has a power switch, which seems completely unnecessary -- like many reviewers, it appeared inoperable when I set it up and powered it on from the main control unit. Turning the subwoofer's power switch off will erase any radio presets and memory functions and zap the clock, so you pretty much never want to use it. (In fact, you want this thing on a UPS in case the power goes out.) Seems to me a coin-cell battery would have made more sense than the stupid switch, especially since they designed it so the subwoofer can be tucked away where the switch wouldn't be convenient anyway.

The Aux In jack is a separate mode, which isn't unusual. However, it would be great if it automatically mixed that input into whatever else was selected so that I could simultaneously use it as my computer's speaker system, as with my Klipsch system. And I wouldn't mind if the supplied Aux In cable were longer than 18" but I guess that's for other MP3 players, where you wouldn't want a long cable coiling all over the place. In any case that cable is easily replaceable.

The supplied remote has a feature (shuffle) that's not on the main unit, so if I want to use that feature I have to take care not to lose the remote. The remote is oddly heavy, btw. Not sure if this is good or bad.

As other reviewers have noted, they should have made the feet on the speakers fold away or detach instead of supplying a 3-inch-deep wall mounting bracket. This thing looks great on a wall but sticks out really far.

Compact stereo system with ipod port and CD player. Great sound and it takes up very little space. Perfect for what I was looking for.

4 out of 5 stars Very nice item   September 5, 2008

Item is as advertized. It comes with wall mounting brackets which can be used to mount the speakers and main unit to the wall. It works well and sounds pretty good for a small stereo. I have a Sirius receiver connected through the aux jack and it works and sounds good.

2 out of 5 stars Static with Ipod Touch over Wifi   July 20, 2008

This unit worked fine with Nano and 5G Ipod, but there is static when playing AOL radio with Ipod Touch (new 2.0 software) over wifi. Plays stored Itunes music fine. Have tried moving speakers, dock, and cables, but no luck.
