The developers at YC Chocolatier have created this low carbohydrate sugar free Dark Bar with no artificial colorings, flavors, preservatives or sweeteners. There are no trans fatty acids and our plant is peanut free. YCs confections also match or exceed the finest chocolates in taste and texture. YC Sugar Free has satisfied natural food retailers established criteria for what they consider to be Natural and clean. Our Sugar Free products meet the FDA sugar free requirement not to exceed 0.5% sugar from any source, per serving size and are lactose (milk sugar) free. YC's cacao beans have been properly grown, harvested, fermented, dried, blended, roasted, winnowed, refined, conched and tempered, to create their own unique intense chocolate taste. The sweetener used in our confections is Maltitol a non sugar sweetener that comes from corn. It is about 90% as sweet as sugar and is non-cariogenic. Maltitol is mostly not digested and therefore, like fiber, the Maltitol carbohydrates listed on the nutritional panel should be deducted from the Total Carbohydrates to arrive at the net digested carbohydrates. This results in 2g of carbohydrates per 42g serving in the Dark Bar. This product is therefore particularly useful for those looking for a low carbohydrate confection. Our confections do not raise blood serum glucose and are therefore also suitable for diabetics. Because we use a minimal amount of Maltitol, the usual laxative effect is all but eliminated.

My father is diabetic, and a bit non-compliant. As I have tasted most of his chocolate choices, I can see why. This however, is by far the best chocolate for diabetics I have run across yet. After trying it, I was surprised by the lack of bitterness I am used to in dark chocolate ( which I don't usually eat for that reason) AND no noticeable aftertaste! I think i ended up sneaking a few more squares before he noticed... telling him it was for " testing purposes". I definitely will be buying more!

This chocolate contains milk fat yet it's not on the ingredients list on the site. Adds extra fat & I was looking for dairy free.

Better than most other sugar frees I tried. Scary amount of Sat Fat(24g per bar), but it's chocolate. I don't know what they mean when they say don't eat too much. A little guideline there would be nice. I have never had a problem scarfing down 1/2 bar and on occasion 3/4.
I think Ultimate Nut & Candy Co sugar free tastes a little better and has less sat fat and calories, but this one is OK.

I ordered this chocolate because my highly allergic child cannot eat milk products. When the description indicated the chocolate is lactose free and "Vegan" (which usually means no animal products - including dairy) I was thrilled. Like another customer, I was sorely disappointed. Unfortuately I did not read the fine print on the wrapper until after my daughter had eaten some and had severe gastro problems afterwards. Amazon please fix the misleading description.

I originally initiated a one star review, because on receiving the product I found that the ingredients listed on the package indicated it contained milk fat, This was contrary to the description in Amazon which did not list milk fat.
I find now from the source that it does not contain milk fat, which makes this a unique dark chocolate which also contains no sugars or glutens. It has a great rich taste and I highly recommend it.
